Environments that Support Creativity and Contexts for Learning

In developing a culture of creativity and thinking in our programs, there are  strategies that support the pedagogy of the environment as the third teacher. These strategies, in turn, support the “children’s expression in all forms” (HDLH, p.44) and help us to understand our role as a facilitator in learning. We will also explore four different mediums and their introductory techniques and tools with children.

HDLH references:

“becoming aware of the many “languages” children use to communicate and providing individualized support so children of all abilities can express themselves and be heard.” (p. 44)

Additional consideration for educators: “When educators provide good quality materials and ample time throughout the day, children are encouraged to express themselves through drawing, painting, sculpture, movement, music, and storytelling to communicate their exploration of the materials or to represent their ideas, experiences, and understanding of the world.” (p. 44)
