Welcome to a space where I can offer you an invitation to think about pedagogy, about children’s thinking, about our noticing…as I offer this invitation, I will be asking different people to offer a response back about their thinking, in order to extend and elaborate on ideas. I hope you enjoy and find meaning in the dialogue.
Photographer and Protagonist,
Harvey Boelsma

Noticed by: Grandma (Katherine Boelsma RECE)
Noticing the smallest shapes in the environment leads into…

A desire to point, to share, to tell, to join in with an idea that is sparked.
Harvey reaches for the camera, “Harvey, do it.”
Grandma says, “Yes, Harvey can do it. What is that you are looking at?”
He carefully points and takes these photographs in succession.
“Moon” he says.
He often notices the moon in the sky when outdoors and exclaims “Moon!”.
Shapes can remind us of things encountered before. Harvey is making meaning of this world through his interactions. Are we listening? A reciprocal relationship of noticing between us leads us both into a deeper connection with the natural spaces around us.
