You are invited to become attentive to children’s thought processes as they use aesthetic materials to express ideas and challenges in an atelier encounter. We will explore how to better understand the processes of creative thinking: how creativity supports the transformation of expression and the transformation of our own ways of seeing and interacting with the world. We will reflect on pedagogical practices that enable educators to identify, name, and extend children’s creative processes embedded in multiple poetic languages.

Standard II Curriculum and Pedagogy
November 17, 2018 Gretchen Reynolds and I were delighted to be able to be with childcare directors, supervisors and early childhood educators from the United Counties of Leeds and Grenville. This session, Creativity and Artistic Expression: thinking with materials and young children, included a large Atelier experience for 45 educators. The sunlit space, the spaciousness of the setting, and the eagerness to engage with the materials on offer, created a wonderful time of exploration and mark making with many kinds of paper and art mediums.
