The Languages of Art and Creativity: Children Thinking with Materials
In this Thinking Studio, we invite you to become attentive to children’s thought processes as they use aesthetic materials to express ideas and challenges in an atelier encounter. This session has been co-designed by Gretchen Reynolds, author of The Play’s the Thing, and Kathy Boelsma, Lead Collaborator from ReCognition to think more deeply about creativity and it’s meaning for our work.
We will explore how to better understand the processes of creative thinking: how creativity supports the transformation of expression and the transformation of our own ways of seeing and interacting with the world. We will reflect on pedagogical practices that enable educators to identify, name, and extend children’s creative processes embedded in multiple poetic languages.
We invite you to explore the poetic languages of the Mark Marking Atelier through your own play and inventiveness. Kathy will also share her experiences from Reggio Emilia suitable to this context. This is a hands on, richly textured experience with room for questions, interactions and reflective dialogue.
